The best way to describe THE D WORD - A MUSICAL is like a Joan Rivers talk show set to a mixed tape. This show has the compilation of various song aspect to tell the story of four women who go through being "Ditched, Dumped, Divorced, and Dating". A far cry from a sad story, the sex talk, relationship therapy, and middle-age women problems had the audience rolling in their seats.

The Abbey which converts from nightclub to theater instantly serves as the perfect venue. Alcohol is served while club dance music add a truly party experience. This show is highly recommended for middle-age women who have been through the D's, for ladies going through breakups, or for a girl's night out.

It is the songs that ties the performance together. Showstopping numbers such as "Holding Out for a Hero" originally performed by Bonnie Tyler, and "Stronger" made famous by Kelly Clarkson, were executed well by the cast. The four ladies belted out their troubles in diva fashion to a relatively small space with an enormous sound system. When the audience was not rolling in their seats, they were dancing and singing along. Working in a small space the set designs were amazingly clear backlit screens, and rotating pieces that adequately matched the scenes.

It is also worth noting that THE D WORD- A MUSICAL made its world premier in Orlando. Written by Jeanie Linders whose credits include MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL and MOMMIES ROCK, THE D WORD - A MUSICAL plays at The Abbey until March 2. The original cast includes Angie McKnight as Erica, Jacinda Rose Swinehart as DeeDee (at this performance Janette Zilloli), Laura Wright as Kate, and Sarah Hester Ross as Jen.
