Photo Flash: First Look at Mad Cow Theatre's THE ROAD TO MECCA

Mad Cow Theatre has announced an addition to our 2012-2013 season. The previously announced production of Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities has been replaced by Athol Fugard's The Road to Mecca. The Road to Mecca, Fugard's Tony Award winning play about an expressive, inspirational South African artist - and the forces that wish to quiet her and celebrate her - opens tonight, October 26 in Mad Cow's new Black Box theatre. In a desolate Karoo village, three characters - two Afrikaners and one English South African - play out a timeless battle: small-minded fears versus artistic flights of freedom. Fugard's powerful examination of destiny, love and race, set against the backdrop of 1974 South Africa, is a potent reminder that the dramas of daily life can fuel exhilarating theatre.

The Road to Mecca will be directed by Tad Ingram, and will feature Mad Cow veteran Robin Olson, Ginger Lee McDermott, and Joe Candelora. The design team includes Erin Miner, lighting designer and Lisa Buck, set designer.
