Surfside Players has announced open auditions for the first show of our 2012-2013 season, YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN, directed by Rod Savickis.

This beloved musical, which debuted in 1967 and enjoyed a Broadway revival in 1999 with additional songs, follows an average day, or rather a day made of little moments from throughout the life of Charlie Brown, from Valentine’s Day to the baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair, from bright uncertain morning to hopeful starlit evening, shared with the lives of his friends both human and canine. Charles Schulz’s comics transported weary adults back to the simple innocent days of their youth, and Surfside brings his creation to the stage this summer.

Auditions will be on Saturday, June 23, at 7:00pm. (Note: this is a change from the dates listed on publicity materials in April and early May.) Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Applicants will be learning brief song and dance excerpts from the musical; prepared audition pieces are not required. If you are unable to attend the evening of auditions, contact the stage manager, Robin Pena, for alternate arrangements, at (321) 626-1343 or robattila@aol.com.

Rehearsals are typically weekday evenings and performances are July 27 - August 12 (three weekends), Fridays/Saturdays 8:00pm and Sundays 2:00pm.

The show features book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner with additional dialogue by Michael Mayer and additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. It is presented by special arrangement with Tams-Witmark.

Surfside is located in Cocoa Beach, FL, an hour’s drive east of Orlando. In Brevard County, take 520 or 528 eastbound to A1A southbound, OR take Pineda, Eau Gallie, or 192 eastbound to A1A northbound. Drive into Cocoa Beach, and turn west on Fifth Street South.
