BWW Review: UCF's THE DIVINE SISTER is Delightfully Unholy Comedy
by Matt Tamanini - Sep 26, 2015

While it has been nearly 20 years since I was a Catholic school student, I have to admit that I don't quite remember it being much like St. Veronica's in Theatre UCF's production of Charles Busch's bawdy comedy THE DIVINE SISTER. Directed by UCF Associate Professor Kate Ingram, the play runs through October 3rd in the campus' Black Box Theatre. The 2010 Off-Broadway comedy lampoons Hollywood's obsession with nuns, riffing on THE SOUND OF MUSIC, THE BELLS OF ST. MARY, AGNES OF GOD, and more; Busch even mixes in his take on the recent surge in Catholic mythology fiction, a la THE DAVINCI CODE. While the humor might be something that would normally get your hand smacked with a ruler, the show does have an ultimately sweet, faith-affirming message; despite the sacreligious and sophomoric humor that, if you suffer Catholic guilt, will likely have you running for the confessional booth.

BWW Reviews: Explores DO BLACK PATENT LEATHER SHOES REALLY REFLECT UP? at Theatre UCF
by Kimberly Moy - Jun 30, 2015

There is nothing more unnerving than growing up as the odd one. We all remember the weird kid in school, but what ever happen to that person? Although this show was written in the late 70s, there are themes that remain relevant throughout the decades. Young adults will always question what they are taught. For better or worse the students of DO BLACK PATENT LEATHER SHOES… are united by their common Catholic school bond.

BWW Review: Orlando Shakespeare Goes unto the Breach with Masterful HENRY V
by Matt Tamanini - Feb 25, 2015

One of the great benefits of having a professional Shakespeare company in town is that they are able to invest in productions of some of the Bard's works that don't often get produced at traditional theatres. While Orlando Shakespeare certainly produces great plays not found in the First Folio, the fact that they are able to bring performances of shows like TITUS ANDRONICUS, THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR, and PERICLES to the stage is a tremendous boon for Central Florida theatre fans. Productions of HAMLET, ROMEO AND JULIET, the Scottish Play, and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM will never go out of style, but it is truly special when you are able to attend an artistically satisfying production of one of Shakespeare's lesser seen works; like the masterful HENRY V, running through March 22nd at Orlando Shakespeare.

BWW Reviews: ARCADIA at UCF - The Proof is in The Rice Pudding
by Justin J Sacramone - Jan 31, 2015

The linguistics king of the stage, Mr. Stoppard is known for composing some of the most verbose plays ever produced on stage. The Coast of Utopia, a 9 hour, three play epic about Pre-Revolution Russia serves as a prime example of such loquacious writing.

BWW Reviews: The Obvious Innuendo of Theatre UCF's THE UNDERPANTS
by Kimberly Moy - Oct 1, 2013

THE UNDERPANTS is an adaption from Carl Sternheim's 1910 play DIE HOSE. The adapter is comedian and actor, Steve Martin. Martin's humor is clearly present throughout the play with an absurd amount of overt sexual innuendos, slapstick comedy, and over-the-top characters. Though the humor is shallow, the story is nearly absurd.
